OUR PASTOR
Pastor Velman Lyons is a native of Oriental, NC and received her college education at North Carolina A&T. Pastor Lyons is a retiree out of the New Haven Board of Education where she was a devoted Physical Education teacher at Betsy Ross Arts Magnet school for many years.
On August 3, 1986, Pastor Velman Lyons preached her initial sermon. Scripture: St. Matthew 3:1-3 verses. Subject: “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord”. On September 17, 1992, Pastor Velman Lyons made history as the first woman in Thomas Chapel’s history to be ordained Eldress. She was ordained by Bishop Harold N. Foy during the Annual Assembly at Immanuel Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Newark, New Jersey. Evangelist Velman Lyons was installed as Pastor, the first female Pastor of Thomas Chapel Church of Christ Disciples of Christ on December 17, 2016.
Pastor Lyons is the loving wife to Tilden Lyons who has been very supportive to her and her ministry over the last 33 plus years. She is the proud mother to Douglas Lyons and Goddaughters Mersadise and Nyoka. She is also blessed to be the grandmother of little Miss Tauri.
Words From Our Pastor
I am in awe that God has favored me to be in this position as Pastor: Shepherd over His people. Not my will, but God’s will be done in my life as He leads and guides me, to bring us all to maturity in the Spirit. Prayers are prayed that we become more sensitive to God’s presence in our everyday lives to worship and walk in the Spirit.
Let us continue to seek first the Kingdom of God, pray for each other love one another and let God have his way in our life! God Bless. As joint heirs with Jesus, we will continue to preach salvation, heal the sick, feed those that are hungry and clothe the naked. To God be the glory for all He has done and what He is about to do in the Kingdom of God.
